For the roundup article on ¥3,000 izakaya drinking in Nishinomiya-Kitaguchi, see here↓
Our “¥3,000 izakaya drinking” series started last week, but last time we immediately went over ¥3,000, so this time I’m going to be more careful.
This time, the restaurant is “ハッケン酒場 西宮北口店.”
The shop has a big sign saying “Highballs ¥290.”
How much can you drink for ¥3,000?
I’m excited to find out~

Challenge Start!

The ¥290 highball is tempting, but I still want to start with this.
It’s a “draft beer” (¥390).

For food, I started with “hiyayakko” chilled tofu (¥190).

The menu listed these as Hakken specialties, so I ordered one each of the “famous tare kawa” (¥120) and “tare minchi” (¥120).
The sauce has a nice strong flavor, and it really makes you want to drink more…

Here comes the second drink.
For my second drink, I went with a “Hakken Highball” (¥290).
Apparently it’s a Black Nikka highball, but even so, that’s cheap.

These are “Hakken gyoza” (¥190).
They’re nicely grilled, tasty, and above all, cheap!

Another “Hakken Highball” (¥290).
I ended up drinking two highballs while eating the gyoza~

Changing things up a bit, I ordered “Japanese sake, small” (¥280).
The menu says hot sake, but chilled is fine too.
This is apparently one go, and this is cheap too.

This is “asparagus bacon” (¥180).
At this restaurant, you can order all skewers starting from just one piece.

This is “coarse-ground sausage” (¥180).

Here I had another “Japanese sake, small” (¥280)…
I’m getting pretty nicely buzzed now, but I feel like I can keep going a little more.
But last time, this is where I messed up the calculations, so this time I’m going to calculate more carefully before ordering.

First, as a rice dish to finish things off, I ordered “chicken tenmusu” (¥88).
It’s ¥88 for one.
At this point, the cheap prices are honestly surprising.
The tenmusu was tasty, and the rice had good flavor too, so I think it’s just right as a finishing dish.

And finally, I had the dessert “black soybean ice cream” (¥150).
Now, it’s the nerve-racking bill time!
Did I manage to keep it within ¥3,000 this time?!
Ta-da!
¥2,967!!!
A huge success!!!!
I beautifully cleared the under-¥3,000 challenge.
To sum up what I ordered: draft beer, Hakken Highball ×2, Japanese sake small ×2, hiyayakko chilled tofu, famous tare kawa, tare minchi, Hakken gyoza, asparagus bacon, coarse-ground sausage, chicken tenmusu, and black soybean ice cream.
Charcoal Yakitori “ハッケン酒場 西宮北口店” Menu

Here’s the menu.
It’s a yakitori restaurant, but they also have a solid selection of non-yakitori dishes.
They apparently have banquet courses too.
The drinks are cheap as well.
A Hakken Highball is ¥290, and a draft beer is ¥390, so the beer is relatively affordable too.
Charcoal Yakitori “ハッケン酒場 西宮北口店” Exterior
There’s a big sign near Nishinomiya-Kitaguchi Station, so I’m sure many people have seen it before.

Here’s the sign.
The menu is even posted on the sign…

The restaurant entrance is a little ways inside the building.
There are all kinds of signs in front of the entrance too…
