January 11 at Nishinomiya Shrine’s “Toka Ebisu” was packed too. Since we were there, we’ll share some of the more unusual food stalls with you.

Melon bread is a little unusual, isn’t it?
Freshly baked melon bread is warm, and just writing this is making it sound tempting.
This one is a little closer to the plaza in front of Hanshin Nishinomiya Station.
Kobe Castella right in front of the station. The Ebisu manju are also run by the same Hachikudo.
A sweet bread from Korea, shaped just like a 10-yen coin and filled with cheese and other ingredients.
Croissant taiyaki.
They’re 400 yen, with only the cheese bacon egg at 500 yen. It does have a lot of fillings, after all.
We once wrote about obanyaki on Nishitsu.
People were split between calling them kaitenyaki and Gozasoro.
At the time of our survey, “Ebisu-yaki” had only 12% support, but I’d love for 100% of Miyakko locals to use that name someday.
Famous for their dashimaki at Ebessan! This is Dashi no Mise Tsumiki, one of our Nishitsu Friends.
Bekkō-ame. A traditional Japanese sweet made by heating sugar and water until amber-colored, then cooling and hardening it.
Candy crafting has that special feeling you only really see at festivals.
It’s so realistic you almost wonder, “This is candy?” Fun to look at.

The legendary sake lees-fed black pork from Amami Oshima, only available at Ebessan.
They’re even serving kasu-jiru this year!
Oden, which must have been selling like crazy because it was so cold.
The grilled shrimp skewers are pretty impressive too.

That’s right. Nishinomiya Shrine also has a live camera running around this time of year.
It cleared out all at once. Yesterday was really something.
It’s amazing how much difference just one day makes.
