Gambian Restaurant “Jollof Kitchen”: “Special Plate” and “Baobab Juice”

Special Plate ¥1,600(tax included)
A whole lineup of home-style flavors from The Gambia in West Africa🙌 This value-packed plate lets you enjoy all kinds of dishes, including “Domoda” and “Chicken Afra”🍽️

This is “Domoda,” a classic Gambian stew. The roux packs in the richness of peanuts and the umami of chopped vegetables.
It has a mild, gentle flavor. Before I knew it, I had polished it off😋

The “Chicken Afra” is fragrant and tender enough to fall apart. It has a spicy kick, with a flavor that keeps you coming back.
I heard it’s made with familiar spices in Japan too, like garlic, ginger, and mustard, plus turmeric as well. No wonder it suits Japanese tastes so well〜😊

This potato salad is actually made with sweet potato🍠
But it’s not just sweet. It’s also refreshing✨
Maybe there’s vinegar in it? It’s perfect between bites of spiced dishes.

There’s plenty of salad too🥗 The sliced carrots are more satisfying to bite into than the usual shredded kind, and they’re really nice♪

It suits Japanese palates while still giving you a real taste of somewhere far away. This Gambian cuisine🇬🇲 could be seriously addictive♪

Baobab Juice ¥650(tax included)
A juice made from the fruit of the baobab, the “tree of life,” native to Africa🍹🍐
It’s fruity, with a pear-like sweet-tart flavor. Like a lactic acid drink, it’s refreshing, yet thick and rich enough to feel satisfying.
Packed with nutrients your body will appreciate, including vitamins and dietary fiber, it’s truly a natural superfood✨
Gambian Restaurant “Jollof Kitchen” Menu

“Jollof Rice” and “Superkanja.” The names may not be familiar, but they all seem to be classic dishes commonly eaten in The Gambia, so I’m curious〜. Superkanja is loaded with okra, and hearing that it has that sticky, viscous texture makes it even more tempting〜😋 Next time I want to try the hibiscus juice too🍹

The person on the left in the photo is the owner, Bintou Jallow. She actually also serves as the Honorary Consul General of The Gambia in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture🌍 The main Jollof Kitchen location is inside that consulate, and it’s a well-known restaurant that has been featured on TV many times. The Nishinomiya shop is its second location. A truly amazing restaurant has arrived here〜😳
A perfect balance of approachability and exotic atmosphere. I hope Gambian cuisine becomes more widely known〜🙌 “Jollof Kitchen” is an incredibly valuable spot where you can casually experience African food. Everyone, please give it a try〜!🇬🇲
