It looks like a “Gyomu Super” will be opening in late August in Komatsu Nishimachi along the Kosone Line.
The opening date has been set for August 22↓
The former Amigo building↓

This location used to be the pet shop “Amigo.”
Here it is on the map↓
The address is 1-2-6 Komatsu Nishimachi, Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture.

Gakubun Junior High School is across the street.

If you go this way, you’ll find Gusto, Amagasaki Shinkin Bank, and other places. If you continue past the Lawson just before the Hanshin elevated tracks, you’ll reach National Route 43.

If you go in the opposite direction, 牛萬 is right next door, followed by places like Co-op and Workman. Once you pass the Docomo Shop, you’ll come out at National Route 2 and the Tosakicho intersection.

Opening Planned for Late August
It is scheduled to open in late August as Gyomu Super Nishinomiya Naruo.
What Gyomu Super Is Known For
I know of Gyomu Super, but I’ve never actually used one myself, so I looked it up on Google.
Gyomu Super seems to be based on the concept of “great deals every day.” In other words, it’s cheap.
The reason for these low prices appears to be that they use their own factories and partner factories overseas to reduce labor and raw material costs, while also cutting out middleman margins from trading companies and wholesalers.
The Downside of Gyomu Super: Large Quantities = Risk of Items Expiring
Gyomu Super seems to have many products that are large in quantity and low in price.
So if you can’t use everything up and it passes its expiration date, it can actually end up costing you more.
I found a site that explains how to avoid that.
7 Shopping Tips to Save on Food Costs at Gyomu Super
Of those, these three points seemed especially important:
- Items divided into small packets
- Items that are easy to portion out and freeze
- Uncooked frozen cut vegetables
Items Divided into Small Packets
Items divided into small packets simply don’t get opened all at once, which helps prevent deterioration. An example would be a pack of 40 mayonnaise packets, 10g each.
Items That Are Easy to Portion Out and Freeze
As for items that can be portioned out and frozen, the reason is pretty straightforward. If you freeze them, they last longer.
Uncooked Frozen Cut Vegetables
You can find uncooked frozen cut vegetables that have only been peeled at other supermarkets too, but it seems there are some items you only really see at Gyomu Super, such as shaved burdock root and sliced lotus root.
There’s Also a Recipe Site
There’s a site that’s like a Gyomu Super version of Cookpad, and it looks like recipes using ingredients bought at Gyomu Super are updated daily. The cost per serving is also listed.
If you check it before going shopping at Gyomu Super, you can decide what to buy in advance.
Gyomu Super Nishinomiya Naruo Will Have the Same Franchise Operator as the Imazu Store
Gyomu Super is operated as a franchise business with “Kobe Bussan Co., Ltd.” as its headquarters. (Only two stores are directly operated.)
There are two stores in Nishinomiya City: the Nishinomiya Yakushi store and the Imazu store.
The newly opening Nishinomiya Naruo store will be operated by the same franchise company as the Imazu store, “Bottle World OK Co., Ltd..”

By the way, the Nishinomiya Yakushi store is operated as a franchise by “Tokuoka Co., Ltd..”
It seems the products themselves are the same, but there are differences in things like point services and alcohol sales. I think there are probably other differences too. If you know any, I’d be happy if you left a comment.
In Closing
Having a new supermarket open is definitely helpful for homemakers. Gyomu Super also seems to carry many original products that you don’t usually see at other supermarkets, so it might be fun in a treasure-hunt kind of way. And of course, the low prices are appreciated too.
