Each Runner Will Cover About 200m in 2 Minutes Around Koshien
In Nishinomiya, the relay will cover 2 to 4 km, with each runner expected to run about 200 meters in 2 minutes.
That works out to 6 km/h, which is about the speed of a brisk walk.
So maybe they’ll be looking for around 10 to 20 runners.
By that calculation, the relay will run around Koshien for 20 to 40 minutes. It seems the exact roads will be finalized and announced in December.
Finally
It looks like lots of people will gather along the roadside. We do see marathons from time to time, but something like the “Olympics,” “here in Japan,” and “torch runners passing through Nishinomiya” probably isn’t something you get to experience very often in your lifetime. I’m sure both the runners and the people watching from the roadside will feel a fresh sense of excitement.
