In Nishinomiya City, starting tomorrow, July 1, garbage will only be collected if it is put out in designated garbage bags.

Black garbage bags will no longer be collected.
So!
Designated bags for burnable garbage will now be semi-transparent.
They look like this↓

They are not completely see-through, but if something like a postcard sticks flat against the outside of the bag, the text can be seen through it. (This is the 30L handled type from Nippon Sanipak.)

We compared garbage bag sizes and how see-through they are
Did you know that for these designated garbage bags, Nishinomiya City has approved several companies to manufacture them?
Quoted from the List of Approved Manufacturers, etc. of Nishinomiya City Designated Garbage Bags
So we bought garbage bags from a few different companies.

The manufacturers are different, but bags of the same size have standardized width and thickness. We bought them at various stores like Aeon and Trial.
We tested how much the sizes and transparency differ among these.
Note: We did not buy every type m(__)m Please use this just as a reference.
【Size】Burnable garbage bags
Here are the size differences for burnable garbage bags.

The handled ones have gussets. What does “with gusset” mean?
【Size】Other plastic garbage bags
They are basically the same as the burnable garbage bags, but just in case, here are the size differences for other plastic garbage bags.

The 15L and 5L sizes do not feel all that different.
Since plastic garbage seems to pile up fairly quickly, 30L may be the better choice.
Next, let’s look at the transparency, which is what many people are probably curious about.
【Transparency】Burnable garbage bags
Burnable garbage bags look like this.

It’s subtle… but it feels like the 45L flat bag is a little harder to see through.
By the way, among these, the cherry blossom color on the Nippon Sanipak bag looked kind of maroon and felt a little upscale. Just my opinion.
【Transparency】Other plastic garbage bags
Since they are transparent anyway, there may not be much point in comparing them, but the other plastic garbage bags look like this.

Japanx seems to have high transparency, but since it is large, it might just be an optical illusion. I like the blue on the Japanx bag.

This is totally random, but Aocchi from Nishitsu was impressed by how smooth the Ordi bag felt.
“It’s kind of like a bag that has slightly fancy food inside?”

If you put plastic waste from things like convenience store bento containers into a 5L other plastic bag, it gets full right away.
We tried to think of situations where a 5L bag would be useful, but nothing came to mind… It depends on the household, but we think 30L is probably the recommended size. It’s also good value.

If you are not sure about sorting and other rules, please refer to the Nishinomiya City page below.

It goes into quite a lot of detail, such as how “natto containers” and “plastic bags for ham” or “pudding” count as plastic, and how “ladders over 2m” cannot be collected. There is a lot to read.
Finally
Since the change is finally coming tomorrow, we quickly put this article together. We hope it helps with taking out your garbage from now on.
