May 18 is a special day at Kanno-ji Temple, and apparently many people visit to pay their respects.

Hanshin Nishinomiya Station
Bus lineCrowds of people are coming because of the special annual public viewing.
I’ve been avoiding the special public viewing lately, but today I just felt like going. The lines at the bus stop are splitting off in all directions, with several different queues, so of course local people are confused.
For some reason, the owner of An Hana is organizing the line in Nishinomiya 😅 pic.twitter.com/x4RieZT25g— あん・はな@神仏と暮らす (@an_hana888) May 18, 2023
It’s the day when you can see Buddhist statues at Kanno-ji Temple that are normally not open to the public(the Yuzu Kannon Grand Festival). People generally call this a “public unveiling.” On the official Kanno-ji Temple blog, it was described as a “secret Buddha statue unveiling.”

Apparently, it was designated a National Important Cultural Property in Showa 25. At least, that’s what we wrote in a Nishitsu article from one year ago.
Here’s the location on the map↓
The address is 25-1 Kabutoyama-cho, Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture.
Here’s what it looked like last year↓

So many people came, didn’t they? (last year)
This is actually a scene of everyone listening to a dedicatory performance. The sound of the Indian flute is amazing.
5/18 is Kanno-ji Temple’s public unveiling. I’ve been about five times, and around 3 p.m. still seems best. But next year it falls on a Saturday, so that’s a tough call. pic.twitter.com/QhhZLpgAyr
