Loaded with fruit
Wondering, “Do they ever use loquat trees as roadside trees?”, I checked the Nishinomiya City website.
Here↓
It only listed familiar ones like zelkova, camphor, and ginkgo; loquat wasn’t there.
Apparently, they can also grow on their own from seeds carried by birds.

I saw online that a pack of two sells for 321 yen at supermarkets, so these are actually pretty impressive trees to have growing there.
They’re apparently hard to grow too, and it can take as long as 10 years before they bear fruit.
At Nishinomiya Shrine’s Okoshiya Festival on the 14th of last month, loquats and amazake were handed out for free by the Biwa Musume, and the festival was originally even called the “Biwa Festival” because loquats were offered there.

Recently, a company in Tsuto Okazucho called Fukae Spring has also been selling loquats.
Maybe there’s some kind of connection between Nishinomiya and loquats.
