“Where on earth did the white carp in the Tsuto River go?”
We received that request here at Nishi2, and now we have a follow-up: “It’s been found!”!!! Just in case, let’s first go over the previous request in chronological order.
Well, technically they really are detectives.
This time, we received the following message from Coyote-san.

Where did the white carp in the Tsuto River go? [Request Details]

Last year, whenever I saw the white carp and turtles swimming, I’d casually call it “Ah! The lucky white carp” and feel healed. Around Edion, I saw it early this spring, but north of there, I haven’t seen it even once.
Where did the carp go? If anyone knows, I’d be very grateful if you could tell me.
(Request from Coyote-san)
Coyote-san spotted it “around Edion”
Coyote-san says they saw the white carp and turtles this year (early spring) around the Edion Nishinomiya store. Apparently, north of there, the carp can no longer be seen at all.

Here’s a summary of the request↓↓
- Last year, white carp and turtles were swimming in the Tsuto River
- It was even called the “master of the Tsuto River”
- Early this spring it was around Edion, but apparently it hasn’t been seen at all on the north side
- Where did the carp go? Miyacco Detectives, we need your information!
So,
when we asked for sightings in “A request to our Miyacco Detectives!,” all kinds of information came pouring in. From here, we’ll share the comments we received almost exactly as they came in. Time to announce the results one by one~~~~~~~~!
Real Voices from Miyacco Detectives
Wait, did it get washed away?!
Ooooh!! It was spotted on April 3
It used to swim often near Kofu Bridge. I feel like I didn’t see it for a while during winter, but today (April 13), I spotted it for the first time in quite a while.
By the way, at our house we call that white carp “Nishikitagoi” instead of “Nishikigoi” lol
Nishikitagoi?! That does make sense!!

It lived around here all last year too, so I think this might be its home position. Maybe the reason we stopped seeing it during winter was that it had moved over near Edion during that time? But south of Kofu Bridge, there’s a pretty intense drop, so that would mean it had to climb up it…. Does it jump like a salmon…?

Like a salmon~~?!

I’m glad that looking at the river with my child every day came in handy!☺️ The master of the Tsuto River is doing great!
There’s a black carp with it too. Nice to see them getting along!

The master had returned to its original spot (under Kofu Bridge)‼️
According to Coyote-san, it had been around Edion (Yamakan), so
it must have gone up this↓
weir (seki)😳
Just in case, I searched while making my way upstream from Imazu, but it turned out it had gone back to its original place😅
Shukugawa Marron-san is someone who does cleanup activities along the Tsuto River and Shukugawa, so you could say they’re a real “master” too. Truly a master protecting the master. But honestly, everyone who warmly watches over it is a master too! Everyone is a master!! What am I even saying lol
And that’s how the white carp was found!
- Around Edion → Considering the season, there’s a strong chance it returned to under Kofu Bridge
- It showed off the surprising toughness to jump over drops, making people say, “That’s basically salmon-level.” (It is the master, after all)
- Should we go with the nickname “Nishikitagoi”? Or keep calling it the master?

Thank you!
To all the Miyacco Detectives, to the requester Coyote-san, and to everyone who kept caring about the white carp:
Thank you so much!
Near Imazu Station, at Hozu Pedestrian Bridge (Tsuto River)↓
There was also a splendid nishikigoi carp. Apparently, during high tide, seawater mixes in there (a brackish-water area), so it isn’t a good environment for carp.

It seems carp aren’t really suited to areas unless they’re around north of the JR line or farther upstream. Also, in Shukugawa, carp can end up being washed all the way out to the sea, which is sad, so please refrain from irresponsible releases.
If you have “another mystery like this!”, we’re waiting to hear from you through our information submission form, LINE, or Instagram!
For all the many photos, videos, and messages, Miyacco Detectives!! We are truly, truly grateful!! We’re also still waiting for information from Miyacco Detectives about the missing Shukugawa doll.
