About “Harekaze ACTION”
Lots of people enjoy cherry blossom viewing or fireworks festivals while having a beer, don’t they?
But Japan’s seasonal traditions are gradually declining due to environmental changes, funding shortages, and other factors.
So Kirin Beer launched “Harekaze ACTION,” an initiative that donates part of its sales to help protect cherry blossoms and fireworks festivals.
You can donate to municipalities across Japan, and Nishinomiya City has been selected as one of them!

These are the cherry blossom trees along the Shukugawa River. Beautiful, aren’t they?

How Donations Work
There are two ways to donate through “Harekaze ACTION”.
Buy “Harekaze”
When you buy the beer “Harekaze,” part of the sales is automatically donated. You can buy it at supermarkets and other retailers, or drink it at restaurants and bars!
The donation amount is 0.5 yen per 350 ml can and 0.8 yen per 500 ml can. However, the donations are distributed equally among each municipality, so you can’t choose where your donation goes.
Donate with “Harekaze Coins”
Harekaze Coins are free digital coins you receive when you access the “Harekaze ACTION” website. *Available only to those aged 20 or older.
One coin equals 0.5 yen. With this method, you can donate to the municipality you want to support. If you donate every day for a month, that’s 15 yen!
How to Donate with Harekaze Coins
I tried donating with Harekaze Coins.
Access the “Harekaze ACTION” website. You’ll automatically receive a coin.

Municipalities you can donate to will be shown at random, so use “Search from Map” or “Search from List” at the bottom of the screen to choose one.

Of course, I chose Nishinomiya City. You can also see comments from the city and from people who donated.
Then click “Donate to this municipality”!

You can also add a message with your donation. Choose whichever option you like and click “Donate”!

Swipe the coin upward!

When the “Thank you” screen appears, your donation is complete!

You’ll also see a message from the municipality and a participation certificate. It kind of makes you happy 😊

Finally
Cherry blossoms are one of Nishinomiya City’s symbols 🌸 Lately, you may have seen news about the trees aging, too. “Donation” might sound like a bit of a hurdle, but with Harekaze Coins, it was easy to take part with just a quick tap. And it’s free. If you keep doing it little by little every day, it might help protect the cherry blossoms. If you’re interested, why not join in while enjoying a drink at home 🍺?
