Along Rinko Line in Hamacho, I spotted some curious work being done on the exterior of “Kani Doraku,” which is set to open this autumn.

What caught my eye was around the center of the building’s front.
At first I thought there were two small windows lined up, but when I looked closer…
W-wait, is that!?
Can you see what look like three metal fittings sticking out around the area beneath the small windows? Rather than just being small windows, it kind of looks like a base for attaching a sign or some kind of decoration…
When you think of Kani Doraku, of course you think of that giant crab sign.
It’s hard not to hope that a crab might be going up here〜🦀

The address is 8-27 Hamacho, Nishinomiya, Hyogo. It’s where GU used to be.
Area Around “Kani Doraku Nishinomiya”
Across the street is the Hakushika Memorial Museum of Sake.
If you head this way, you’ll find Higashitsuru, 7-Eleven, Mandai, and more as you go toward Ashiya.
In the opposite direction, there are Hakushika Classics, Yoshinoya, Sundrug, Coop, Soyora, and more.
Kani Doraku Nishinomiya is planned to open after renovation work on the building that was originally GU.
The tile-like roof and the walls are starting to take on a somewhat Japanese-style look.
It’s not confirmed yet whether the crab sign will be installed, but if anything else changes, we’ll cover it in another article.
