I visited the Italian specialty food shop “ciao mami” near Kawarabayashi Park! I first spotted it while out running and had been curious ever since, thinking, “An Italian specialty food shop here!?” So I stopped by to take a look inside♪

Exterior of the Italian specialty food shop “ciao mami”

Here’s the exterior.
A stylish silver building suddenly appears in the middle of town!
The pink sign is the shop’s landmark.

A buffalo welcomes you at the entrance♪
Inside the Italian specialty food shop “ciao mami”

What a stylish interior!
Carefully selected Italian ingredients are beautifully displayed. It almost feels like stepping into an art museum!

The Italian beer “Moretti” is also part of the stylish display.
The sight of the Moretti gentleman drinking by the window… so dandy.

Whoa! You can sample Italian ingredients!?

Next to the entrance is a tasting corner for their carefully selected “Parmigiano Reggiano.”
The manager’s wife kindly says with a smile, “Please, go ahead and try some.”
Apparently, this cheese is made using carefully selected “milk from cows within 100 days of giving birth,” meaning milk packed with nutrients meant to raise calves.
It’s so delicious!! The aroma of Parmigiano Reggiano fills your mouth.
…I want red wine. (Inner voice)

She also told me all about various cheeses.
This one is “Pecorino cheese.”
It’s a hard cheese made from sheep’s milk.
According to her, “It goes well with red wine♪”
…Now I want red wine even more. (Inner voice)

The tastings continue!
This is “Gorgonzola Dolce.”
It’s a blue cheese known for its creamy texture.
If you let it come to room temperature before eating, you can enjoy an even creamier texture and a milder flavor.
Sampling the foods while learning so much about Italy and cheese was such a fun experience!
Products at the Italian specialty food shop “ciao mami”

Here are their carefully selected cheeses.
Not only can you taste before choosing, they are also sold by weight, so you can buy exactly the amount you want♪

“Dried tomatoes”(40g/330円税込)
This is something I’d definitely like to add as an accent to pasta.

Western matsutake, “dried porcini”(20g/1000円税込)
When I once backpacked through Italy, this was one of the ingredients locals recommended to me, and it really impressed me.
It’s outstanding in cream pasta!

Bagna cauda(80g/1470円税込)and anchovy fillets(80g/1570円税込)
With these, you can enjoy the flavors of the Mediterranean right here in Nishinomiya!

Carefully selected Italian olive oils.
I’d love to try cooking with these!

It looks like they also have fruity olive oils!
Lemon olive oil(100ml/1620円,250ml/2810円)
Orange olive oil(100ml/1620円,250ml/2810円)
Olives are currently on a great sale!

Balsamic vinegar(100ml/1700円税込)
It seems to pair well not only with meat and salads, but also with hard cheeses.
There were plenty of other products I couldn’t even introduce here!

Currently(6/9), the shop also offers “Sicilian blood orange juice” for takeout♪
A refreshing drink that’s perfect for the hot season ahead!✨

Final thoughts

I bought some “ricotta cheese”(850円税込), which I don’t often get to eat.
Following the mother’s advice that “It’s delicious with honey drizzled over it♪”… I went ahead and added honey.

Sooooooo good!!!!!!!!!!!
