Heavy crowds are expected on opening day at “Decathlon,” which opens at Hankyu Nishinomiya Gardens on Friday, March 29.
Decathlon. Even the name sounds impressive. I looked into it a bit.

What is Decathlon?
Decathlon is a sports brand from France. To put it simply, it feels like the sports version of Uniqlo. It has all three: simple, affordable, and high-performance. It may overlap somewhat with Workman Plus, which recently opened at Lalaport Koshien, in terms of target customers.
As for products, it looks like they will carry a wide variety of sports items, including camping tents, outdoor gear, cycling, mountain climbing, yoga, fitness, running, and more.
The store map showed what kinds of categories they will have!
Here it is↓
Decathlon will be on the 3rd floor East Mall
The Decathlon opening at Hankyu Nishinomiya Gardens will be in the 3rd floor East Mall. It will be next to Izumiya, on the left as you face it.
It will be in the spot where KEYUCA used to be↓
KEYUCA has moved to the spot where Francfranc used to be, just to the left
The store is said to be about 1,800㎡. Square meters do not really give me an instant sense of size, but since the previous KEYUCA shop carried furniture, I remember it being quite spacious. Looks like Decathlon is going to be a big store.
In order to let customers try out more products, the store will feature display spaces for camping tents and outdoor products, experience zones for yoga and fitness, and a trial corner for original snorkeling masks. Sports events and workshops that both children and adults can enjoy will also be held regularly.
It seems there will be display spaces, trial corners, and more.
They will also apparently offer a 365-day return service that lets you return or exchange items bought from the online store at the physical shop (unused items only).
Here is what Decathlon will look like↓

There is already an online shop, so I looked at posts from people who have bought items there.
I tried using the backpack sold at Decathlon for 350 yen today, and it was pretty good… ( ˘ω˘) so light~ pic.twitter.com/xRfMiD9BLP

A 350-yen backpack getting good reviews.
A bit late to the party, but I bought a portable backpack at Decathlon. This thing gets big. pic.twitter.com/YDRjLcGTIv

This seems like something that would be really useful to have when traveling.
I’m curious about Decathlon, the French brand making its first entry into Japan in 2019. Tracksuits are only 2,700 yen, but the designs are actually pretty good 🙆♂️ Since they’re opening in Nishinomiya and it’s nearby, maybe I’ll go and write a store introduction article 📝 pic.twitter.com/l6evytyM3m

It has a sporty design, doesn’t it?
It looks all floppy because I’d already pulled out the pegs, but this tent is good.#デカトロン #ケシュア
Still, there sure are a lot of striped shirts. pic.twitter.com/UGABbJEWUA— Nomihime, now Gamai (@ohbu_Priscilla) March 22, 2019
Apparently the tents are good too. Maybe the price is low.
Decathlon BTWIN 500 Cycling Bibless Shorts
“Purchase price: ¥1,990 (tax included, free shipping)
Cycling shorts from Decathlon’s B’TWIN cycling wear series…
Price rating → ★★★★★ (Way too cheap!)”https://t.co/8vwpSLIvT3 pic.twitter.com/lAcWrXhrR9— CBN (@cbnanashi) February 2, 2019
Their cycling gear also seems to be affordable and high quality.
Decathlon BTWIN Cycling Gloves 520
“The biggest feature of this product, like other items from the company, is its unbelievably low price. And yet there are no noticeable negatives in the fabric or stitching, so I have no choice but to say they are frighteningly well made.”https://t.co/o1ejfEslyt pic.twitter.com/nzWZlNMX2f— CBN (@cbnanashi) February 24, 2019
“Frighteningly well made” and “an unbelievably low price.” That is a very firm statement.

There may be TV coverage on opening day
Gardens on Friday, March 29 will surely be something else, with TV crews and the surrounding roads likely getting very crowded. I’m also curious whether they will have to restrict entry on Saturday and Sunday in particular, like Workman Plus did the other day.
