I picked up a bento from ポテカラ屋, a takeout-only shop that opened last year as a sister store of スモキチ in Nishinomiya-Kitaguchi.
As you can probably tell from the shop’s name, fried chicken is the main focus here, but they also have bentos with items other than karaage, as well as new bento options. And of course, you can also order the karaage on its own for takeout.
ポテカラ屋 Food
This time, I got the “Momokara Bento” (580 yen).
It features large pieces of fried chicken thigh.
Because the pieces are so big, they’re full of meat juices and very juicy.
The coating is well seasoned, but the thigh meat itself has plenty of rich flavor too, so the balance is delicious.
By the way, the rice in this bento is seasoned as well (apparently it’s cooked with dashi).
Even the rice is designed to go well with the karaage.
When you buy a bento, it comes with a gift from the shop.
You can choose one of three items: “Mini Potato Salad,” “Dip Sauce,” or “Tea (PET bottle).” This one is the “Mini Potato Salad.”
There are four kinds of “Dip Sauce” in total: “Honey Mustard Sauce,” “Three-Cheese Sauce,” “Garlic BBQ Sauce,” and “Mentaiko Mayo Sauce.”
