While running, I spotted something mysterious that looked like a “giant fan” next to Hamakoshien Sports Park.
What on earth is this?
I found an information board.
“Shield cutter head” = the front end of an excavating machine
Apparently, this is the front end of the excavating machine used to build a combined sewer storage pipe.
The combined sewer storage pipe is being built to help reduce flooding and related damage in the southern area of Nishinomiya City.
Here’s what the real thing looks like!
It looks like it could dig through just about anything!!
It seems this was used to excavate the 813 meters from “Hamakoshien Sports Park” to “Nishinomiya Higashi High School Ground” over about two years!
It’s rainy season now, and typhoon season is coming up.
The reason everyone can live safely in Nishinomiya is thanks to projects like this that support daily life in places we don’t usually see!
