The first elementary school built in Nishinomiya was Hamawaki Elementary School, established in Meiji 5 (1872). The following year, in Meiji 6 (1873), several more elementary schools were established.
One of them was “Ueda Suzaki Elementary School,” built in Ueda Shinden Village.
In Meiji 19 (1886), it was merged with Naruo Jinjo Elementary School and disappeared, but a stone monument engraved with the name “Ueda Suzaki Elementary School” still remains today.

A kenshohi is a stone monument that honors an individual’s achievements.
Looking at this monument, it seems to be one honoring “Koketsu Masagoro,” the headman of Ueda Shinden Village, by the Hyogo Prefectural Governor at the time, “Kanda Takahira.”
