It looks like sensor-operated automatic faucets will be installed at schools and other facilities in Nishinomiya City.
According to the Kobe Shimbun, the source of the information, Nishinomiya City plans to install sensor-operated automatic faucets at handwashing areas in 275 locations, including schools and parks. The measure is reportedly aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19, with about 344 million yen to be invested.
Other plans include installing powerful ventilation fans at schools and municipal gymnasiums that serve as evacuation shelters during disasters, as well as setting up cameras that detect body temperature at the Civic Hall. It all sounds pretty impressive.

With sensor-operated automatic faucets, the water shuts off automatically after a set amount of time, so it seems like they could also help reduce water bills in the long run. I imagine not many people want to touch faucets in places like park restrooms, so many people may welcome the switch to automatic faucets.
