Monkeys had been spotted in northern Hyogo Prefecture and Takarazuka, and now there have also been reports of monkey sightings in Nishinomiya City.
It has been nine months since “The monkey that had been appearing in Amagasaki → Nishinomiya → Amagasaki seems to be settling in Nishinomiya”.
We went to check the areas around where it appeared.

Spotted near 2 Nigawa Yurinonocho on November 21
At around 8:55 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, a monkey about 60 cm long was spotted on the street near 2 Nigawa Yurinonocho.
There are thick trees on the south side of 2 Nigawa Yurinonocho, so it may have fled into that area after being spotted.
Spotted near 7 Kamigakicho on November 21
At around 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, November 21, a monkey about 60 cm long was spotted on the street near 7 Kamigakicho.
This area is a residential neighborhood, with National Route 171 to the south.
Spotted near 2 Kotobukicho on November 22
At around 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, November 22, a monkey about 60 cm long was spotted on the street near 2 Kotobukicho.
Kotobukicho straddles both the north and south sides of Yamate Kansen, so it is good that there was no contact with any cars.
Spotted near 6 Matsuzonocho on November 22
At around 9:50 a.m. on Sunday, November 22, a monkey about 1 m long was spotted moving along power lines near 6 Matsuzonocho.
We do not know whether it moved along these power lines, but since its body length is different, it may be a different monkey from the previous sightings.
Did it move to Ashiya?
According to Hyogo Crime Prevention Net, it was spotted on the street near Midorigaokacho in Ashiya City at around 10:20 a.m. on Sunday, November 22.
Midorigaokacho is next to Bistrot et Vin 20区, which we previously featured in an article.
What to do going forward
Nishinomiya City says it received advice from an expert that “rather than trying to forcibly capture the monkey and cornering it, it is better to continue monitoring it and allow it to return to the mountains naturally.”
If you encounter a monkey,
- Do not feed it or show it food
- Do not approach it
- Make sure your doors and windows are locked
and take steps to protect yourself without provoking the monkey.
