We picked up a bento from “ポテカラ屋,” a takeout-only shop that opened last year as a sister store to “スモキチ” in Nishinomiya-Kitaguchi.
As you can probably tell from the shop’s name, karaage fried chicken is the main focus here, but they also have bentos without karaage and new bento options. Of course, you can also get karaage on its own for takeout.
“ポテカラ屋” Food
This time, we bought the “Momokara Bento” (580 yen).
It comes with large pieces of thigh-meat karaage.
Because the pieces are so big, they’re packed with juices and very tender.
The coating is well seasoned, but the rich flavor of the chicken thigh comes through too, making it nicely balanced and delicious.
By the way, the rice in this bento is seasoned too (apparently it’s cooked in dashi broth).
They’ve clearly thought about making the rice go well with the karaage.
When you buy a bento, you also get a small gift from the shop.
You can choose one from three options: “Mini Potato Salad,” “Dipping Sauce,” or “Tea (bottled).” This one is the “Mini Potato Salad.”
There are four types of “Dipping Sauce” in total: “Honey Mustard Sauce,” “Three-Cheese Sauce,” “Garlic BBQ Sauce,” and “Mentaiko Mayo Sauce.”
