It looks like there will be a J-Alert test broadcast over the disaster prevention speakers today, Wednesday, May 20, at 11:00 a.m.
Emergency alert radios will also suddenly start making sound at the same time, so be prepared.
Here it is↓

(At Nishi2, we have an emergency alert radio set up among our key Nishinomiya items)
What is J-Alert?
J-Alert is Japan’s nationwide instant warning system.
Specifically, it is a system that instantly sends information from the national government to residents about situations where there is little time to respond, such as the following:
- Ballistic missile information
- Earthquake early warnings
- Tsunami warnings
The alerts are delivered through emergency alert emails sent to mobile phones, disaster prevention radio systems, and other channels.
Here’s What This J-Alert Broadcast Will Sound Like
The broadcast will be something like this:
“♪ (ascending chime)
This is a J-Alert test. (repeated 3 times)
This is Disaster Prevention Nishinomiya City. ♪ (descending chime)”
The broadcast will be delivered through the following:
- Disaster prevention speakers (disaster prevention administrative radio) installed at 146 locations around the city
- Sakura FM (emergency alert radio)
- Nishinomiya Disaster Prevention Net
We have previously written articles about disaster prevention speakers and emergency alert radios.
Finally
Unless you are near a disaster prevention speaker, you may not be too surprised even if it goes off.
However, many people may have bought emergency alert radios this time, so you might be startled when an unfamiliar sound suddenly comes from inside your home.
Of course, if a real emergency were to happen, the alert would sound suddenly, so we want to stay calm and act carefully.
