A corner where Nishitsu writers investigate Nishinomiya’s mysteries and questions and turn them into articles: “Nishitsu Detective”
This article is brought to you by “GenkiStyle,” a foot treatment clinic that supports Nishitsu.
On January 27, the Kobe Shimbun published an article titled “Kingfisher catches food underwater, appears at Shukugawa in Nishinomiya.” It’s not exactly a mystery or a question, but from a Nishitsu point of view, we figured “we’ve got to send out an investigation team,” so as Nishitsu Detectives we surveyed the river from the mouth all the way upstream, and the results were totally unexpected!!

As the representative of the investigation team, I took a ton of photos along Shukugawa🐓

We started at the river mouth by Omaehama Beach, the lowest point of Shukugawa!
We found ducks spending way too much time relaxing under the bridge!(No kingfishers, though!)

We also found a bird that looked like Nessie!
But it wasn’t a kingfisher.

We found a bird pecking away at the ground like crazy!
But it wasn’t a kingfisher.

Hmm! A pigeon is staring at something really intensely!
Could it be a kingfisher!?

It was just gazing at a mom passing by.
Somehow romantic❤

Then Yumacchi from Nishitsu sent this photo, saying, “I found a kingfisher!”

Apparently there’s a kingfisher tile in Nishinomiya-Najio!
Just as I thought, “If we go all the way up to Najio, maybe we’ll see a kingfisher! lol”…

A blue object shot past right in front of me at incredible speed.
I chased after it, and…!?

Aaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!

Against all odds, we found a kingfisher!!! lol

Even the Shukugawa pigeons seemed surprised by the rare visitor, Mr. Kingfisher.
The sighting spot was around here ↓
It’s a little north of Kurakuenguchi Station.
By the way, about six months ago, we also found a mamushi pit viper at Nishinomiyahama.
Finally
A local man out for a walk came over and talked to us. He was moved, saying, “So they’re really around here!” and we snapped photos together♪ Why not try looking for kingfishers along Shukugawa while you’re out for a walk too?✨
