It looks like cicadas have started singing in Nishinomiya.
(Thanks to Maemin-san and Mushishi-san for the tip.)

Around 5 p.m. at Shukugawa Station, a cicada was apparently making a “jijiji” sound.
We asked Mushishi(むしし)-san, a Nishinomiya local and applied entomology instructor, about it.
Often seen around Nishinomiya,

it seems a little early in the season for the aburazemi cicada,

so it may have been a nii-niizemi cicada, or

a haruzemi cicada (though that is less likely, since they are not often found in urban areas).
There is also a grasshopper relative called

kubikirigisu, whose call is often mistaken for a cicada’s around this time of year. It could possibly have been this insect.
I can’t say for sure without seeing the actual insect or hearing the sound, but please take this as a general opinion🙇
That’s what they said.
So it could have been a grasshopper, too. In the past, Nishitsu reported that cicadas started singing in Koroen on July 2, but since it’s recently been as hot as midsummer, it does seem like it could have been a cicada.
※Maemin-san and Mushishi-san, thank you very much for the information!!
