We visited “Sakayoshi,” which opened on July 21 in Minami-Koshikiiwa-cho near Kurakuenguchi Station.
This article is brought to you by “Nichinoken,” a cram school that supports Nishitsu.

“Nigiri Sushi Jo” 1,944 yen (tax included) → 1,555 yen (tax included) with 20% off until 7/25

Just look at this beauty. It melts in your mouth.

The shirasu sushi is topped with pickled plum paste. I’ve never seen nori placed this stylishly before.

Even the salmon roe looks elegant. It pops in your mouth.

Next up is “Kinmedai Hiraki Boshi” 1,620 yen (tax included) → 1,296 yen (tax included) with 20% off until 7/25
It’s really big. Just barely fits in the grill.

The only ingredients are salt, fish sauce, sake, and kombu. There are absolutely no unnecessary additives. Wonderful.

Let’s grill it and dig in♡

The flesh is so tender and flaky. The seasoning brings out the umami of the fish, and it’s delicious even without adding anything.
Apparently it’s a carefully made item marinated in Sakayoshi’s special dashi. We ate every bit, even the springy part around the eye.

The “Chirimen Sansho” 756 yen (tax included), which comes as a free gift when you purchase an item until 7/25.

It has sansho pepper berries in it, and it makes you want more rice. What was all the chirimen I’d been eating until now?
Apparently it’s slowly handmade by artisans in a traditional pot. The attention to detail is amazing.
Inside “Sakayoshi”

The compact shop is lined with products. Everything looks delicious.

Next time I’m buying Saikyo-yaki and karashi mentaiko. Definitely.

The maguro-zukushi looked tasty too.

In the back, artisans are preparing the food.

Final Thoughts
I’d been excited since before the opening, wondering what kind of place “a stylish fish shop unlike anything before” would be, and it was exactly as described. Even though we know fish is good for us, cooking it at home and cleaning up afterward can feel like a lot of work, so it’s easy to end up choosing meat instead. But sushi and chirimen sansho are “just eat and enjoy”. Hiraki and Saikyo-zuke are “just grill and eat”. With items like these, it feels like you can easily add fish to your dining table. At Sakayoshi, if you call the day before you plan to shop (same-day is apparently OK too), they’ll tell you what ingredients they have, and you can even make requests like, “Please make it into sashimi.” Being able to enjoy seasonal fish prepared in the tastiest way sounds perfect.
