Something That Changed at Nishitsu This Week

There was one thing this week.
The Nishitsu Health Boom Has Arrived
People say all kinds of things these days, like eating too many carbs isn’t good for you.
To begin with, I don’t eat much, so I’m not too worried about that kind of thing. But since I’m a medical nerd and a health nerd, I bought an item that lets me measure my blood sugar. (I don’t have diabetes or anything)
It looks like this↓

You just attach this white, round sensor to your arm, and you can measure your blood sugar with an app. By the way, one sensor only lasts 14 days.
The sensor↓

“Wait, what?! You stick this in?”
There’s a needle!! It’s basically an injection!
But I worked up the courage↓

I did it!
The pain was somewhere in between those times when an injection doesn’t hurt at all and when you go, “Ow!” It was totally bearable. I think it depends on the person. No guarantees.
So now I’m experimenting on my own body to see what kinds of foods make my blood sugar rise more easily.

Things like comparing regular R-1 with the low-sugar version to see which raises my blood sugar more, Cup Noodles that are basically all-in on carbs, and even though I’m really bad with sweets, I tried things that seem packed with sugar, like baumkuchen, cookies, and raw momiji manju. For me, it’s practically torture. By the way, there wasn’t much difference when I compared the two R-1 drinks. Why??
Blood sugar graph↓

It went way up.
This is the data from when I ate raw momiji manju.
When it goes over 200 and forms this sharp peak, it’s often called a blood sugar spike. It shoots up⤴ and then drops fast⤵. It’s like a blood sugar roller coaster.
Apparently, this kind of thing isn’t good for the pancreas, which produces insulin. And it’s also supposedly not great for your blood vessels. Be careful! Mandarin oranges didn’t raise my blood sugar much.
So I’m experimenting to find out things like, “Maybe my body shouldn’t eat much of this,” or “Does the way I eat change how my blood sugar rises?”
I think you can probably use it if you just buy the sensor. I’m using this with a smartphone app.

But just to be safe, I also ended up buying this reader device. If the sensor alone doesn’t work for you, buy this. You probably don’t need it.

If you’re curious, definitely check it out.

But just so you know, you do have to stick this in.
By the way, at Nishitsu, Nikotomama said she wanted to try wearing one. If she does, I’ll write about it here again and let you know how much it hurt her, and so on. lol
With that, we’re waiting for your Nishinomiya tips through our information submission form, LINE, or Instagram!
