At “Earthquake Memorial Park” in Manganidani, a guestbook station is set up every year on January 17, and a moment of silence is observed at 5:46 a.m.
A flower offering stand is always in place, and flowers are also distributed on the day.
January 17 is approaching again this year, so we would like to take another look at “Earthquake Memorial Park.”

“Nishinomiya Earthquake Memorial Park”

This is the entrance to the park.
Right next to it are “Koshimizu Water Purification Plant” and “Manganidani Cemetery.”

The park itself is very spacious, and local children often play here.
Toward the back of the park, several stone monuments have been installed.

These are the stone monuments.

The largest monument in the center is the “Memorial Monument for the Victims.”
It is engraved with the names of Nishinomiya residents who lost their lives in the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake.
There is a flower offering stand in front of the monument, allowing anyone to offer flowers at any time.

Beside it is a stone monument inscribed with words from then-mayor Junzo Baba.

On the opposite side, the purpose for establishing this monument is written.
The monument was built both to mourn the victims and to pass down the memory of the earthquake to future generations.
The small round stone monuments placed around the central monument describe scenes from the earthquake along with photographs.

At the very back of the park, there is also a cenotaph to console the spirits of the victims.
