I noticed the koinobori (carp streamers) you can see on the right while riding the Hankyu Imazu Line between Nishinomiya-kitaguchi Station and Mondo-yakujin Station had changed, so I went to take some photos.

As expected, the children are small. There are a lot of them.

The dad is huge!

The mom’s size makes her look kind of like a goldfish
This Place Is “Kitaguchicho No. 2 Park”
Here it is on the map↓

Why the Mother Doesn’t Appear in the Koinobori Song
Come to think of it, with koinobori, the black magoi is the father, the red higoi is the mother, and the blue or green ones are the children, right?
But in the song “Koinobori,” the mother doesn’t appear, does she?
Carp streamers higher than the roof
The big magoi is the father
The small higoi are the children
Swimming as if they’re having fun
I looked into it a little.
Apparently, from the Meiji era until around the 1950s, koinobori were only sold as two-color sets: magoi (father) and higoi (children).
The song “Koinobori” was written around 1931, so it seems that’s why there was no mother in it.
