Our roundup article on Gardens lunches is here↓
There used to be a restaurant called “Papaya Leaf Hankyu Nishinomiya Gardens” on the 4th floor of Hankyu Nishinomiya Gardens, but it seems to have reopened on May 10 under the new name “Hibiscus Avenue.”
So what kind of restaurant has it become?
I was curious, so I went to check it out right away.

“Hibiscus Avenue” Food

I ordered this “Asian Ethnic Special Plate” (1,556 yen).
You can enjoy dishes from various countries all at once, so it feels like a good deal.

You can choose from three types of noodles, and this time I went with the “Tom Yum Goong Soup Noodles.”
It’s tom yum goong with noodles in it.
This must be what people mean by an addictive spiciness.
The cilantro also adds a nice accent.

This is the “Oriental Herb Salad.”
This one also uses plenty of cilantro.

This is the “Green Curry.”
It has a mysterious but addictive flavor, with the sweetness of coconut milk and the heat of chili peppers existing side by side.

This is an assortment of “Thai-style Fried Spring Rolls,” “Thai-style Shrimp Toast,” and “Thai-style Fish Cakes.”
The fried spring rolls have shrimp inside, and they’re fried whole.
You can even eat the tail.
The shrimp toast is kind of like an ethnic-style French toast, and to put it simply, the fish cakes are a bit like satsuma-age fried fish cakes.
You dip each of them in chili sauce, and it’s fun how the chili sauce tastes different depending on which of the three dishes you eat it with.

These are “Vietnamese Fresh Spring Rolls.”
This dish is familiar in Japan too, but the sauce spread on the plate stood out.
It was a little different from chili sauce, but I wonder what this sauce is called?
The pine nuts added a nice accent.

This is an assortment of “Thai-style Stir-fried Minced Pork with Basil,” “Thai-style Grilled Chicken,” and “Mini Rice with Fried Egg.”
This feels like the main dish, I suppose.
Overall, there are many spicy dishes, but this one isn’t seasoned very spicy.
Eating the minced pork, fried egg, grilled chicken, and rice together felt like having an ethnic-style oyakodon.
By the way, the rice was regular Japanese rice.

This is “Today’s Asian Sweets.”
Today it looks like mango pudding.
It was a fairly firm mango pudding, which I personally liked.
I finished eating everything, and it was quite a filling set.
Even as a man, I was completely full and very satisfied.
Now, one more thing to finish…

“Tapioca Iced Milk Tea” (538 yen)!
When it comes to Asian food, you just can’t leave out tapioca.
I made sure to get my tapioca fix this time too.
“Hibiscus Avenue” Menu

It really is a multinational cuisine restaurant.
It looks like you can enjoy not only Southeast Asian dishes, but Hawaiian dishes as well.
Maybe “ethnic cuisine restaurant” is the best way to describe it.
They also have a wide variety of sweets and drinks.
Inside “Hibiscus Avenue”

As you can see, all the seats are at tables.
The atmosphere inside also had an ethnic feel.
I went in the early afternoon, and there were not only people having meals, but also people using it as a cafe.
It has an ethnic style, but one distinctive point is that the atmosphere isn’t too busy or cluttered.
Exterior of “Hibiscus Avenue”

This is the familiar Hankyu Nishinomiya Gardens.
“Hibiscus Avenue” is on the 4th floor.

This is what the entrance to the restaurant looks like.

There are various signs and menu displays.
Apparently, this restaurant serves Southeast Asian cuisine in general.
You might find yourself debating what to order before even going in.
