The gourmet floor on the 4th floor of Hankyu Nishinomiya Gardens has restaurants covering all kinds of cuisines, and apparently there’s even a Hakata motsunabe place.
This time, I visited that motsunabe restaurant: “やまや 西宮ガーデンズ店.”
Hot pot usually has more of a dinner-time image, but it seems you can enjoy motsunabe here as part of the lunch menu too.

Hakata Motsunabe “やまや 西宮ガーデンズ店” Food
I ordered the “やまや自慢のもつ鍋膳” (1,800 yen).
Once you order, rice, a small starter, condiments, and a tabletop stove are brought out first.

First, here is the starter.
Today it’s “shira-ae” tofu-dressed vegetables.

The rice comes with free refills.

These are “karashi takana” and “karashi mentaiko.”
These also come with free refills.
Honestly, you could eat several bowls of rice with just these…

These are the condiments for the hot pot.
They’re chili pepper, yuzu kosho, and garlic.

Now, here’s the main motsunabe.
Light the stove and heat it up.

It’s gradually starting to boil.
Once it begins boiling, ladle the broth over the vegetables and offal as it continues to simmer.

This looks about ready to eat.
You don’t want to overcook it either.

Let’s dig in.
As expected, the motsu is plump, slightly sweet, and really delicious.
But even more than that, the combination of ingredients in this hot pot is wonderful.
In addition to the motsu, it contains agodashi flying fish broth, garlic chives, cabbage, burdock root, garlic, and chili pepper. I don’t think this flavor would come together if even one of them were missing.
Whoever came up with this combination was truly a genius…

Now, about the rice: both the karashi takana and karashi mentaiko are so tasty that you could easily eat bowl after bowl with them alone.
I ended up getting a refill too, but be careful not to overeat.
The hot pot itself is fairly generous, and since rice refills are free, I think even men will leave feeling full.

Here is the lunch menu.
Please note that lunch at this restaurant is served only until 14:00, which is shorter than many of the other nearby restaurants.

Inside, there are counter seats and table seats.

Pass through the noren curtain to enter the restaurant.

This is what the interior looks like.
Toward the back, there are table seats that feel a bit like semi-private rooms.
On the right side, there are counter seats.

There is also a souvenir sales corner next to the register.

The restaurant is on the 4th floor of Gardens.

Here is the entrance.
The restaurant has glass walls, so you can see inside from outside.

There’s a signboard showing the lunch menu.
