Apparently there’s a restaurant in Hankyu Nishinomiya Gardens where you can try the unusual “chicken hitsumabushi.”
Its name is straightforward: “Kashiwa.”
What kind of food do they serve?
We went to check it out.

Teppanyaki Chicken Restaurant “Kashiwa Hankyu Nishinomiya Gardens” Food
They have three kinds of hitsumabushi, but since I wanted to enjoy the flavor of the chicken itself, I chose the “Chicken Hitsumabushi with Premium Thigh Meat from Pure Aichi Nagoya Cochin Chicken” (2,450 yen), which does not include eel.

First, the “salad,” “today’s small side dish,” “onsen egg,” “pickles,” and “condiments” were brought out.
The “onsen egg” and “condiments” are apparently used later with the hitsumabushi.
I waited for the hitsumabushi while eating the salad.
I have to say, I was really looking forward to it…

Here it is!
Hitsumabushi.
The way to eat it is basically the same as eel hitsumabushi.

First, I had it as is.
The chicken has a rich flavor, and it goes really well with the sauce.
The skin is grilled crisp and has a nice aroma too.

For the second bowl, I added the onsen egg and condiments from earlier and ate it oyakodon-style.
Once the onsen egg and condiments are added, it turns into a completely different dish.
They make the flavor of the chicken stand out even more.

Finally, you pour “chicken broth” over it.

This contains the chicken broth.

Once you pour on the chicken broth, the chicken takes on yet another character.
The sauce also pairs wonderfully with the chicken broth.
It gives the meal a light, refreshing finish.
Personally, I might like this even more than eel hitsumabushi.

These are the lunch menu and drink menu.
In addition to the three types of hitsumabushi, there are also four kinds of lunch plates.
The desserts look good too.

The inside looks like this, with table seating and tatami-style seating.
There are no private rooms, so the tatami-style seats are in the same area as the table seats.
Since there is tatami-style seating, it’s easy to visit with children, and there were many people with small children on this day as well.

As usual, let’s head up to the 4th floor of Gardens.

This is the entrance to the restaurant.
The sign also has a large illustration of hitsumabushi on it.

There’s also this lettering next to the restaurant.

They have a display window too.
