Notable Events in Nishinomiya
Saturday the 24th
There are two notable events on Saturday.
First, what may be the last summer festivals in Nishinomiya will be held at Hinokuchi Elementary School, Danjo Elementary School, Kita-Rokkodai Elementary School, Nakano Aoki Children’s Park, and Saifukuji Temple. See details here.
Second, Shinjiro Atae will be coming to the Sky Garden on the 4th floor of the main building at Hankyu Nishinomiya Gardens. Shinjiro Atae is well known as the lead dancer and vocalist of AAA, the six-member mixed-gender super performance group.
Third, just like the second event, Hiromi Iwasaki will be coming to the Sky Garden at Gardens. I personally don’t know much about her, but apparently she was an idol in the 1970s, so this may really appeal to men in their 60s and older. If you have a male family member in that age range, let him know, “Hiromi Iwasaki is coming to Gardens.”
Sunday the 25th
There is one notable event on Sunday.
The “7th Children’s Picture Book Art Exhibition” will be held at Nishinomiya Civic Gallery. Around 400 drawings themed around beloved picture books that left a lasting impression will be on display. It is also being held on Saturday the 24th.

This Week’s Wrap-Up
This week, the article about the redevelopment of JR Nishinomiya Station drew a lot of attention. The No. 1 facility people want to see built there is a bookstore. Since we’re talking about 2025, which is still quite a ways off, it feels refreshing that bookstores are still in demand in this Amazon era.
Ippudo’s campaign offering five free draft beers is nice, but the location is quite far from the station, so I imagine many people may want to go but find it difficult to get there.
As for new store openings, the Gyomu Super in Komatsu Nishimachi has opened. A 100-yen shop will also open on September 1, and a gym is coming in October, so it looks like the area will be getting even busier.
This week’s articles ended up being heavily focused on the Nishinomiya-Kitaguchi, Koshien, and Naruo areas. Next week, I’m hoping to visit some areas we haven’t covered recently.
Even though the worst of the heat seems to have somehow passed, it’s still hot. Next week, we’ll keep bringing you fun and interesting Nishinomiya stories.
